Portrait painting demonstration

Service Description

Over the course of four hours I will take you through the initial process of laying in the portrait with oils, from life using traditional methods employed by the old masters. As I work I’ll talk through the process whilst taking any questions. I will begin by introducing my materials and discussing pitfalls and shortcuts to good painting practice. During the session we will go through the setup, sight size, importance of value and eventually colour. There is no limit to the number of people watching though they need to be able to see the drawing as it develops. Some venues may be able to put up a monitor which helps this issue. Naturally the portrait model will take a rest and we will break when needed, normally with a slightly longer coffee break somewhere in the middle. The timings are all negotiable and travel is extra. I will also need a portrait model to sit.
