Giving you the confidence to fulfill your creative potential.

The Welsh Academy of Art near Crickhowell, Powys provides a unique opportunity in Wales to study the classical methods of drawing and painting as

practised by the Old Masters as well as new approaches adopted by a new generation of Masters today.

The Academy attracts students from both the local area and across the world. We welcome anyone with a passion to learn, from complete beginners to professional artists. Enjoyment in the practise of drawing and painting and a commitment to study are the only requirements needed to join our courses.

We welcome all artists of every level whether they wish to learn from the structured courses or develop on their own using the studio set up.  The aim of the Academy is to provide a convivial environment of like minded people and a platform from which the individual artist can develop both practically and philosophically.

The options include courses in cast, still life, figure, portrait,

landscape painting and untutored days that include live models or simply studio space for personal development.  We also offer a variety of online courses for those unable to make it to the studio or those just wanting to

compliment what they are learning.

"Finding the WAA was the best thing that happened to my art practice. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The old school with its beautiful light is such an inspirational place to paint. People of all abilities attend the workshops working at different levels in different mediums based on ability. Lucy has a huge amount of experience and a very good eye. She moves around the group giving level appropriate advice to each individual and has an intuitive ability to look at your work and guide you in the right direction." - Deborah Bowditch
