The WAA can put together a tailored teaching programme for your school.
Students will receive:
- An introduction to the history of the sight-size method including the artists that implemented the method and the philosophies behind it.
- Advice on materials and the studio set-up.
- Demonstration of the method, answering any questions.
- Specialist tuition in a range of subject matter to suit, such as cast drawing, still life, portrait and landscape. We would suggest beginning with cast drawing.
Students will produce finished artwork to take with them.
We recently worked with Monmouth School for Boys to provide a two-day workshop – see the photographs below.

Fifteen GCSE & A level students attended a two day workshop at The Welsh Academy of Art with outstanding results.
I was thrilled with how focused and determined all students were in representing their cast accurately. They really enjoyed how logical the process was in terms of measuring, looking and mark-making.
This workshop has improved their observational drawing skills and they are now using charcoal in a much more sensitive way.
Many thanks to Lucy & Tess for this brilliant experience and I would recommend this to all schools.
